Toms River firefighter sentenced for arsons

TOMS RIVER, N.J. - June 3, 2011

Ryan Dellane pleaded guilty to aggravated arson in March. He also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault because two firefighters were injured while trying to put the fires out.

The Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company member admitted setting nine blazes in Ocean and Burlington counties between March and August of last year. One blaze consumed 540 acres in Barnegat.

The 19-year-old apologized in court Thursday, saying he was "stupid and immature."

The Asbury Park Press reports Dellane's attorney, Guy Ryan, told the judge his client has been undergoing psychological treatment.
