It happened along the White Horse Pike, near Delilah Road in Absecon, Atlantic County.
Police tell Action News that the driver was traveling in the eastbound lanes then careened off the road and into a utility pole on the passenger side of the car.
The passenger riding in the car died. The driver is in critical condition.
The cause of the crash is still unknown. Police are investigating.
