Pa. city skips challenge cellphone ban ruling

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - June 7, 2011

A Lehigh County judge overturned the city's cellphone ban last month. Mayor Ed Pawlowski tells The Morning Call of Allentown that there was no guarantee the city would prevail and an appeal would be costly.

A failed appeal could have also resulted in a statewide precedent that would have affected similar bans in Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre, Harrisburg and Erie.

Lehigh County Judge James Anthony tossed the ban on May 4, saying only the state could enact such a ban.
