Police: Domestic assault leads to discovery of PCP

NEWARK - June 8, 2011

The incident began around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday when police were called to Willa Road in Newark.

The suspect, 21-year-old Jason Starkey of Wilmington, was found to be in a domestic dispute with his 26-year-old girlfriend. The dispute apparently started in an apartment in the 100 block of Thorn Lane.

Police say Starkey had punched his girlfriend in the face, broke the window out of her vehicle and stole her laptop computer.

When officers arrived they say Starkey dropped something on the ground which, they say, was later found to be a bottle containing liquid PCP.

Officers initiated a search warrant of Starkey's home and said they found a second bottle of liquid PCP, two handguns - one with a missing serial number - and ammunition for the weapons.

Starkey was charged with a number of weapons, assault and drug charges and was held in lieu of more than $90,000 secured bail.

Starkey's girlfriend was not injured in the domestic dispute.
