Police officer hit by car in NE Phila.

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - June 17, 2011

Investigators say two men, posing as police officers, forced their way into a woman's home at gunpoint and forced her to withdraw money from a bank ATM machine at Knight's and Woodhaven Roads around 6:30pm.

An 8th District police officer saw the activity and attempted to stop the car. The suspects car hit the officer and dragged him a half of a block.

Resident Cindy Chew saw the men bail out of their getaway car.

"What I heard was a big crash, and I happened to be near my front door," says Cindy Chew.

Witnesses say the home invaders and kidnappers could have hurt more people as they tried to get away. Their getaway caused quite a bit of damage to local lawns, flower beds and fences as they crossed Frankford Avenue and hit a fence.

"When you hear something like that, it is very disturbing," said Chew. "And they almost hit a woman on the side walk."

The suspects were apprehended a short time later in the 4100 block of Carteret Drive.

Chew was horrified to hear what the victim and the officer went through.

"There's no amount of money that is worth that, somebody's life," said Chew.
