2 charged after Phila. cop hit by car

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - June 20, 2011

Mark Kelly, 38, of the 5900 block of B Street and William Gray, 38, of the 3200 block of Mercer Street were arrested after the incident.

Police say it all began when the two men, posing as police officers, forced their way into a woman's home at gunpoint and forced her to withdraw money from a bank ATM machine at Knight's and Woodhaven Roads around 6:30pm.

An 8th District police officer saw the activity and attempted to stop the car. The suspects car hit the officer and dragged him a half of a block.

The suspects were apprehended a short time later in the 4100 block of Carteret Drive.

The officer was taken to Aria-Torresdale Hospital where he was treated and released.

Both Kelly and Gray are charged with robbery, theft, aggravated assault, simple assault, kidnapping, impersonating a police officer, burglary and criminal conspiracy.
