NJ town seeks to ban sale of laser pointers

OCEAN CITY, N.J. - June 22, 2011

Ocean City's action comes after a man admitted shining a laser at a Coast Guard helicopter that was flying a training mission 2 miles over the Atlantic Ocean.

Nobody was injured in the June 7 incident. But the Federal Aviation Administration says 14 planes or helicopters were flashed near Atlantic City International Airport last year.

Ocean City Council President Michael Allegretto told The Press of Atlantic City about 10 to 15 stores on the Boardwalk might sell the laser pointers.

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce supports the ordinance, which will be introduced on Thursday.
