Man beaten with shovel, club in Rehoboth, Del.

REHOBETH, Del. - June 22, 2011

Police say John M. Boyer, 48, and two Harrington teens, ages 16 and 17, are charged with assault, conspiracy and weapons offenses. after an altercation on Saturday evening, which sent a 35-year-old man to Beebe Hospital with multiple injuries. The victim's 18-year-old son and 35-year-old wife were also hurt, suffered minor injuries.

Investigators say it all started on Saturday evening when the teenage suspects got involved in a disagreement with the 18-year-old victim on Hebron Road. Words were exchanged and the teens went their seperate ways. Later that evening, the 18-year-old returned to the area for a social function with his father and mother. As they drove down Norwood Street, a large crowd formed along the streets and the 17-year-old approached the 18-year-old victim and a physical altercation broke out between the two.

The 18-year-old's father attempted to keep the crowd from intervening but that's when John M. Boyer and Kevin Boyer, 36, emerged from the crowd armed with a club and a shovel. The Boyers then allegedly assaulted the 35-year-old man.

The victim's wife and son attempted to help, but they were chased to their vehicles. The teen was repeatedly kicked and punched by the Harrington teens as he entered his vehicle and his mother was menaced by Kevin Boyer, who held a shovel above her as she attempted to flee the area.

A warrant was issued for the teens and John and Kevin Boyer. The two teens and John M. Boyer were arrested on Sunday, June 19th. State Troopers have yet to locate Kevin T. Boyer.
