Owners say they had to knock down NJ mansion

OCEAN CITY, N.J. - June 23, 2011

Its owner says he had to do it because taxes were so high and he could not find a buyer for the 1924 DuBois estate.

Donald DuBois told The Press of Atlantic City he tried to sell the mansion for the past three years but could not find a taker. DuBois also said he couldn't go on paying nearly $16,000 a year in property taxes plus inheritance taxes.

He says the only option was to raze the home and sell off smaller lots.

DuBois says the decision makes him and his family very sad.
