The incident happened around 12:28 this morning on the 2400 block of North Harlan Street.
Police received a radio call of a person shot on the highway. A female witness, who was with the victim earlier in the night, performed CPR until police arrived.
Officers found the man bleeding profusely from the back of his skull. The victim was transported to Hahnemann Hospital, where he was declared brain dead. He later died Sunday afternoon, police say.
Witnesses say that they observed an altercation between the victim and an unknown man in his 50s. The unidentified man then left the area and no one saw him return.
So far no arrests have been made.
