Pa. rep charged with DUI faces more charges

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - June 27, 2011

Bethlehem police tell The Morning Call of Allentown that state Rep. Joe Brennan is also charged with careless driving and public drunkenness after investigators say he fell down in parking lot before police pulled him over.

Brennan was pulled over Wednesday near his Bethlehem district office. He was charged with having a blood-alcohol content more than twice the 0.08 limit for drivers in Pennsylvania.

Witnesses tell police Brennan fell and hit his head, was helped to his feet by bystanders and drove away before being pulled over.

In a statement Brennan says he made a "serious mistake" and has had a "long and personal struggle with alcohol."
