Police: Man who aimed gun at trooper still missing

UPLAND BOROUGH, Pa. - June 29, 2011

Just before 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Pennsylvania State Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic violations in the area of Upland Street and West 22nd Street in Upland Borough. The driver didn't stop, prompting a police pursuit.

Police eventually forced the vehicle off the road and to a stop in the 400 block of West 24th Street.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Rasheem Metts, 22, of Chester, allegedly passed a firearm to the passenger, 20-year-old Asmar Metts, also of Chester. Asmar then fled on foot.

While fleeing, Asmar pointed the firearm at one of the troopers. The trooper then opened fire on the suspect. Asmar continued to flee and remains at large at this hour.

Meanwhile, Rasheem Metts attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle. Police say in his effort to escape, Rasheen intentionally tried to strike a trooper with the vehicle. That trooper then fired one shot at the vehicle.

Rasheem Metts was taken into custody uninjured. He is charged with several counts including Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Reckless Endangering, Fleeing and Eluding, firearms violations, among other charges. Metts was committed to Delaware County Prison on $500,000 cash bail.

Police are still searching for Asmar Metts. He is considered armed and dangerous. A warrant for his arrest in relation to this incident is on file. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Asmar Metts is urged to contact the Pennsylvania State Police, Media Station, at 484-840-1000.
