Motorcyclist thrown from bike, run over

EDGEMOOR, Del. - June 30, 2011

The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes of I-495 near Edgemoor Road, approximately .9 miles north of 12th Street on-ramp in Edgemoor, Delaware.

Police say the biker, identified only as a 44-year-old Blackwood, New Jersey man, collided with the rear of a 2006 Ford Mustang, driven by William Forrest, 41, of Middletown, Delaware. The impact resulted in the motorcyclist being thrown from the bike.

A second motorcycle then struck the rear of the first motorcycle.

Still lying in the roadway, the victim was then struck by a 2006 Toyota Sequoia as well as tractor-trailer. Both drivers stopped.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The operators of the Mustang and the second motorcyle were transported to the Christiana Hospital where they were treated for their non life-threatening injuries.

Northbound I-495 was closed at 12th Street for the police investigation.
