Del. bank robbery suspect identified, arrested

NEWARK, Del. - July 7, 2011

Christopher H. West was charged for the robberies after being arrested on Wednesday for an unrelated matter.

Detectives were able to identify West as a suspect through tips from the public.

According to investigators the first two robberies occurred at the Citizens Bank on Centerville Road in Wilmington on June 28, 2011 and then the PNC Bank in Elsmere on June 30, 2011.

West was identified as the suspect who attempted to rob the TD Bank located in the 4000 block of Concord Pike in Wilmington on Friday, July 1, 2011. In that incident, West allegedly entered the bank around 9:30 a.m. and approached a bank teller. West then presented a demand note for cash which implied that he was armed. However, he fled the bank before receiving any money.

The last incident occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011. Police say West entered the Wells Fargo Bank branch located in the 2000 block of Concord Pike and again presented a demand note for cash to a teller. The teller complied with the note and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash.

There were no injuries in any of the incidents.

West is currently incarcerated at the Howard Young Correctional Facility.
