It happened in a house in Gloucester City. Two year old Madeline McHenry was in the care of a babysitter; a babysitter who came with references and a resume, a babysitter who is now charged with murder.
"I don't know what was going through her mind or how she could pick her up and shake her and throw her across the room and kill my little girl," said Dan McHenry.
Investigators say 34 year old Sheila Polanski has confessed that she violently shook Maddy and threw her to the ground Tuesday afternoon because she wouldn't stop whining.
Polanski claims she was stressed out because she had been evicted from her apartment.
Maddy's family says Polanski left her to die.
"She threw her to the ground and then proceeded to go and play "Yo-ville" on Facebook because there were facebook entries of her playing "Yo-ville" for the two hours while my baby lay there dying on the living room floor," said Maddy's grandfather, Ted Helgren.
By the time Polanski called 9-1-1, it was too late. Maddy died Thursday in her father's arms.
"She had the best personality in the world, very outgoing," said Maddy's father Dan. "She loved everything. She loved to sing. She's just the sweetest, cuties little peanut on the planet."Maddy's family says Polanski seemed like the ideal babysitter. They say she came well recommended.
Maddy's grandfather was devastated when he saw her in the hospital.
"She was in a coma," said Ted. "We went to see her. My little angel lying there, she had tubes coming out of everywhere and her little chest going up and down. They had to keep her alive for organ donation."
Polanski will be arraigned on the murder charge on Monday. Until then, she is being held on $500,000 bail.
