UPDATE: 3-year-old's death ruled a homicide
They plan to take JaQuinn Brewton off life support.
Action News has been following this story since the boy's caretaker said the child fell down the stairs nearly two weeks ago in West Philadelphia.
Police say they did find blood on the steps of the fourth floor where the boy lived with his guardian. Police say she told them the boy had fallen and she couldn't get him to wake up.
Jaquinn's mother was living in a homeless shelter at the time of the incident with her four other children. Jaquinn was left with that family friend.
Since the accident, family members have claimed the boy was abused. Police confirm the boy suffered several burns, but his guardian claims the injuries were accidental.
After the child is taken off life support, police say there will be an autopsy.
They will then decide whether to file charges.
