It happened at the Torresdale Boys Club Recreation Center pool on the 4500 block of Linden Avenue.
A female lifeguard noticed the young swimmer in distress and dove in to save her.
A male lifeguard then performed CPR until medics arrived.
City officials are proud of their team.
The victim was transported in critical but stable condition to Aria Torresdale Hospital, and then transferred to St. Christopher's for further care.
