Arrests in assault, kidnapping of 5 children

WILLINGBORO, N.J. - July 18, 2011

On Sunday at approximately 10:00 p.m., Willingboro police responded to the area of Rittenhouse Drive for a report of juveniles being assaulted.

Officers say five children ranging from 11 to 15-years-old were assaulted, kidnapped and terrorized.

Police have identified the suspects as 20-year-old Stephan Monk, a 17-year-old male, and two other males.

Authorities say Monk and the other suspects forcibly took the juveniles from a front porch on Rittenhouse Drive, and dragged them into 92 Rittenhouse Drive.

They say the five victims had their hands, feet and mouth taped, and were physically assaulted and terrorized by their captives.

A knife was placed to the neck of one victim; another victim was carried outside and a dog leash was tied tightly around his neck and a tree.

One of the juveniles was able to free himself to escape and ran home to advise their parent.

Once the suspects noticed one of the parents approach 92 Rittenhouse Drive they fled the residence.

At that point, the victims were able to free themselves and ran out of the residence. The victims did not sustain any life-threatening injuries.

Stephan Monk was charged with (5) counts of Kidnapping, (5) counts of Aggravated Assault, and Weapon offenses. Monk was placed in Burlington County jail in default of $200,000.00 bail.

The 17-year-old male juvenile was charge with (5) counts of Kidnapping, (5) counts of Aggravated Assault, and Weapon offenses. The juvenile was placed in the Burlington County Detention Center.
