16-year-old girl shot, killed in Norristown alley ID'd

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - July 20, 2011

Dozens gathered on Green Street to remember, reflect spiritually, and find understanding why 16-year-old Dominique Devlin was shot dead in a Norristown back alley.

The shooting happened near Green and East Basin streets in Norristown shortly after midnight Wednesday.

"No reason why such a beautiful young lady, who was such a sweetheart had to leave this earth in this manner," Dominique's mother Kim Spearman said.

Spearman says her daughter knew her killer. Law enforcement sources have confirmed that fact, but motive at this point is unclear.

"I think I know who it is, but until they tell me confidently, I cannot accuse. This is someone she dated, that's how they got her to where she was, to sabotage her and ambush her," Spearman said.

Devlin was a junior to be at Norristown High, a young woman who friends say always had a smile and a positive look on life.

"It's real hard dealing with someone you know like your whole life," friend Jenair Dingle said.

Sources say investigators are closing in on the killer and an arrest is expected soon.

"I just ask please to bring this manor whom to justice and make him serve and don't make him serve lightly," Spearman said.

Devlin's parents say they have no idea why someone would hurt their baby girl.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Norristown Police at 610-270-0977 or Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278-3368.
