Plane overshoots runway at Trenton-Mercer Airport

EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J.July 22, 2011

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. Friday when a Cessna 550 jet was attempting to land at Trenton-Mercer Airport. It ended up in a grassy area about 200 feet off the runway, but Mercer County officials say the plane was not significantly damaged.

The two people flying the plane, whose names were not released, were the only people on board and they were not hurt. The plane is registered to Delaware-based L3 Aviation. It departed from Teterboro Airport and was scheduled to pick up three passengers at Trenton-Mercer.

Only helicopters were allowed to land at the airport for about two hours following the incident, which remains under investigation.
