State police say a Boston Whaler with five people aboard and a Stingray powerboat with two people in it collided around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on the Navesink River in Middletown.
All seven people were knocked into the water, though most were uninjured and quickly got back in their respective boats. But 50-year-old Christopher Plant of Keansburg, who was in the Stingray, went under the water and vanished.
Crews then spent several hours looking for Plant, whose body was eventually found around dawn.
Thirty-nine-year-old George Harrington of Atlantic Highlands, who was piloting the Boston Whaler, was charged with drunken driving. A phone number for him could not be located Sunday.
