The blaze broke out around 12:15 Wednesday morning inside the restaurant, located on the 1500 block of South Street.
When firefighters arrived they found smoke coming from the basement.
They quickly placed the fire under control.
Residents of the second floor apartments just above the restaurant, managed to get out safely.
The restaurant suffered smoke damage.
Investigators are looking for the cause.
