Elderly man murdered in West Chester

West Chester police are investigating their first homicide since 2007.

86-year-old Augusto Rivera was found dead late Monday afternoon in his apartment in the 200 block of South Matlack Street.

Police believe that Rivera was either suffocated or strangled.

Officers responded to Rivera's apartment after getting a call from a friend to check on Rivera's well-being.

The victim lived alone, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information to call West Chester police at 610-696-2700.
