NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - July 31, 2011

Acting County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says 32-year-old Debora Ferreira of Irvington was shot just before 3 a.m. Sunday in downtown Newark. She was unresponsive and was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Murray says a motive for the shooting is unknown. She declined to provide further details on the incident, which is under investigation by her office and Newark police.

The mother of a 1-year-old daughter, Ferreira had been with the county corrections department since July 2007.

The Essex County Crime Stoppers and the New Jersey state PBA have each offered $10,000 rewards for information in the case.
