Former NJ heath commissioner heads to think tank

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - August 1, 2011 Dr. Poonam Alaigh (AH'-lay) has joined the Randolph-based Common Sense Institute of New Jersey.

Alaigh stepped down as health commissioner on April 1, citing "an urgent illness in the family."

Before working in Gov. Christie's administration, Alaigh was an internist specializing in vascular disease and was executive director of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.

The nonpartisan Common Sense Institute is relatively new - founded just over a year ago to "explore and advance public policy alternatives that foster individual liberty, personal responsibility and economic opportunity."

Alaigh will look at potential innovations as the state begins to implement the health care overhaul championed by President Barack Obama.
