Trenton police say 45-year-old Frank Davis died in the emergency room at Capital Regional Medical Center at Fuld.
Police say they responded to a report of a man arguing and fighting with patrons early Tuesday at a bar in the city. Arriving officers observed a man grabbing a female patron around the neck. Officers subdued and handcuffed the man, then took him to the hospital, where he was to be cleared in the emergency department before being taken to a crisis unit for evaluation.
Police say the man had a history of medical issues.
The Trenton police internal affairs unit and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office are investigating.
