Police are investigating the rape of a woman in Pennypack Park overnight in Northeast Philadelphia.

The victim, a woman in her 20's, says she was walking along the 8200 block of Cresco Avenue around 2:45 a.m. when she was approached by a man.

He is described as a white male standing 5'8" to 5'10" tall with reddish hair.

The man punched her in the face, then dragged her off the roadway, into the park - down a path near a park bench where music concerts are performed - and raped her.

The suspect then fled the scene. Police say he also stole $20 from the victim.

The victim was transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries including a broken nose and lacerations to the face.
