Emily reforms, moving away from Bahamas, US coast

MIAMI (AP) - August 6, 2011

The National Hurricane Center said late Saturday afternoon that Emily was 70 miles (113 kilometers) west-northwest of Great Abaco Island and had maximum sustained winds of 30 mph (48 kph). It was moving toward the north at 8 mph (13 kph). Forecasters said they expected it to turn northeast and increase in speed Saturday night and Sunday, with some slight strengthening possible.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect. The tropical depression was expected to dump one to three inches of rain over the northwest Bahamas through Sunday.

Emily had broken apart after causing floods and damaging hundreds of homes in Haiti.
