Woman pulled from AC boardwalk and assaulted

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - August 9, 2011

Investigators say it happened about 2:30 Sunday morning near Elberon Avenue. Responding officers arrived to find three witnesses assisting the victim.

A witness told police the woman was yelling for help as they observed a man exiting the beach at Elberon Avenue. The witness says they then said they were going to call police, which prompted the suspect to run.

The 22-year-old victim from Pennsylvania was visiting friends and staying in Ventnor. She was walking back to Ventnor on the boardwalk alone after leaving the Trump Plaza Beach Bar.

The victim told police that while walking the boardwalk a man tried to talk to her. When she asked to be left alone, she said the man picked her up and carried her to the beach where he assaulted her.

The victim said she was able to strike the suspect in the face with her shoe - possibly causing injury to the suspect.

She was transported to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center.

The suspect is described as light skinned black or Hispanic male, thin build, 5'10" tall, approximately 20-25 years old, short brown hair with a very thin "pencil thin" beard, wearing blue jeans and a bright orange collared shirt with reddish diagonal stripes.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect is urged to contact the Atlantic City Police Department at 609-347-5766.
