Police: Pa. laptop shoplifter ran out of gas

LEHIGHTON, Pa. - August 9, 2011

Mahoning Township police tell The Morning Call of Allentown that 38-year-old Robert Stalter Jr. swiped a laptop from a Wal-Mart in Lehighton on Monday night before taking off in his sport utility vehicle.

Investigators say Stalter's vehicle soon stalled out and he was arrested after fleeing on foot.

The Morning Call report says police suspect Stalter was under the influence of drugs. He was transported to a hospital after complaining of chest pains following his arrest.

The Hazleton man awaits a hearing on charges including retail theft and fleeing police pending his release from the hospital. It was not clear if he had an attorney.
