Hurricane leaves blood supplies low

PHILADELPHIA - August 29, 2011

In the aftermath of the hurricane, the local Red Cross is now in urgent need of blood and platelet donations.

In fact, along the East Coast, the Red Cross is nearly 15-hundred units of blood short, because 60 blood drives along the east coast were cancelled due to the storm.

And even more were canceled today due to power outages.

So the Red Cross has issued a call for blood - and anyone who can also donate platelets.

To find a blood drive or make an appointment, call 1-800-Red-Cross, or use the link on this story on 6ABC-dot-com.
