Village Whiskey 'shakes' things up

PHILADELPHIA - SEPTEMBER 18, 2011

Philly's Iron Chef, Jose Garces, envisioned an adult version of that memory in opening Village Whiskey last year. But this summer, the picture became complete when the bar started serving his take on milkshakes.

There are five creations. "S'More" is available only alcohol-free. It includes chocolate, graham crackers, and house-toasted marshmallow.

Vanilla and chocolate shakes are available as well as a strawberry creation normally blended with fine rum. But perhaps the most creative is the Irish Car Bomb, only available in an "adult" version.

It's made with two Irish whiskies, vanilla and chocolate ice creams, and pieces of cake splashed with Irish brew. A slice of the cake also tops the drink.

The shakes cost between $6 and $9 per serving.

Chef de cuisine Anthony Scuderi told Action News he envisioned the shakes as a summertime menu add-on. He was surprised at how rapidly they became hot sellers, and he has no intention of taking them off the menu in the foreseeable future.

Village Whiskey is located at 20th and Sansom Streets in Center City, open daily at 11:30am and serving its famous burger menu for lunch and dinner.

No reservations are accepted. You can expect a wait at popular dining times.
