Investigators say the 28-year-old victim was stopped while trying to cross the intersection at Fifth Street and Erie Avenue, around 3:15 on Wednesday morning.
During the confrontation at the Hunting Park intersection, one of the suspects shot the man in the stomach and chest.
Police say the gunmen then ran off with the victim's wallet, cell phone and two SEPTA trans-passes.
Witnesses say the two men than ran east on Erie Avenue.
The wounded man is in stable condition at a local hospital.
