Mrs. Fixit: Leather Care

September 11, 2011

Keep leather out of direct sunlight, too much sun can cause your leather furniture to dry and crack.

If you find an ink stain on leather, dip a cotton swab into rubbing alcohol and gently rub it on the ink. As you see the ink lifting, Switch to another swab, repeating until the stain is gone.

If you're nervous about using the alcohol on your leather - test a hidden spot, like under a cushion to be sure that it won't discolor your leather.

You don't need a fancy leather cleaner for regular cleaning. A mild natural soap with moisturizers works beautifully and the moisturizers will condition the leather as it cleans.

Dampen a cloth and wring it out. then rub it onto the bar of soap. Then working in small circles, apply the soap to the leather until it is soaked in.

You don't need to rinse the area when you're finished. The soap will stay on the leather and nourish it with moisturizers. All you need to do is buff the area with a clean soft cloth to work it into the leather and you're all set.

I hope these tips help you care for your leather! I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple!
