As flood waters recede, Yardley begins cleanup

YARDLEY, Pa. - September 9, 2011

In Yardley, Bucks County, residents flocked to see the racing river, and the damage it left behind.

Meanwhile, many people along the river were evacuated. They returned on Friday morning to begin assessing the damage.

"I think its sad. I really feel bad for the people who are along the river," said Tracy Mulvaney of Yardley.

Still the mayor of this river town says flooding could have been worse. However, there are still homes engulfed in water, roads blocked, trees down and debris scattered.

"It's still a mess. We're going to have a terrible financial situation on our hands when we clean all this up," said Mayor Matt Sinberg.

Clean up has already started at one house on Afton Avenue. Jena Butta showed us her basement filled to the top with water.

"It's just surreal. There is probably 10 to 12 more steps when you're looking down and it's like a lake right here," she said. "It's just weird."
