Families of US hikers jailed in Iran 'overjoyed'

TEHRAN, Iran - September 13, 2011

In a statement Tuesday, the families of Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal call the news "a huge relief." The families say they have no details but are looking forward to a reunion.

An Iranian court set bail of $500,000 each for Bauer and Fattal, who were convicted on spy-related charges. Their defense attorney says that clears the way for their release a year after a similar bail-for-freedom arrangement for another American, Sarah Shourd.

The three friends were arrested in July 2009 and accused by Iran of espionage. They deny the accusations, saying they may have mistakenly crossed into Iran while hiking near a waterfall in Iraq.
