Save money with free iPhone apps

Sept. 21, 2011

Kyle James, webmaster for Rather Be Shopping, recently listed some of his favorite money-saving apps -- and best of all -- they're free.

First, there's GasBuddy. This app helps you find the cheapest gas near you, no matter where you are.

Next, there's ShopSavvy4. With this app, you can scan an item's barcode while you're shopping to see where you can get it cheapest, and even if there are coupons available for it.

And with the Repair Pal app, you can get instant estimates on car repairs and towing services without going from garage to garage.

Last.fm is a free music app, that keeps track of your musical taste and lets you listen to music without a subscription fee.

With Skype Mobile you can make video calls for free using your iPhone. You will have to pay for text messaging with Skype, but rates may be lower than what your cell phone company charges.

Finally, Mint.com Mobile and PageOnce are both apps that can help you keep track of your account balances, payment due dates and budget, so you don't overspend or incur late fees.
