Bags of weapons found near S. Jersey high school

MILLVILLE, N.J. - September 19, 2011

Upon arrival, officers learned that members of the high school's track team found a backpack containing several weapons in a wooded area along their running trails.

A sawed off shotgun, along with bullets and knives were found.

The two 16-year-old boys, who found the bags spoke exclusively with Action News.

"We were running as we were cleaning up and we saw these bags and we wondered what was in them. We looked and there were a bunch of weapons," said William Poley.

"There were two bags, one blue and one black. They black one had a shotgun and the blue bag had bullets and knives," said Dayron Brown.

The high school was put on a brief lockdown, for safety purposes.

Howard Conover was in the parking lot at the time, waiting to pick up his grandson.

"It was kind of scary for a while, no one knew what was going on," said Conover.

Authorities searched the area and did not locate any additional weapons. The confiscated weapons were transported to the police station for processing.

Police are still unsure how the weapons got so close to the school. They are still investigating who the weapons belong to.
