Police: Cleaning woman took $20K in jewelry

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - September 26, 2011

The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department charged 31-year-old Melissa Ann Lash with taking about $20,000 in jewelry from the home of an 88-year-old woman in a gated adult-living community.

Authorities say the victim noticed 35 pieces of jewelry were missing on Thursday. A surveillance system installed after the call allegedly captured Lash pocketing more jewelry on Friday.

Investigators say the Aston woman was arrested after leaving the home at Hershey's Mill in West Chester.

Police say Lash is the only person who had access to the bedroom where the jewelry was taken.

Detectives believe Lash sold jewelry stolen from the woman on five other occasions.

Lash is being held on theft and related charges.
