Police say a man who was facing eviction set off an explosion in South Philadelphia on Friday.

Rescuers were called to the 2200 block of South Juniper Street around 3:00 p.m. for a fire and report of an explosion.

Once there, they transported a 66-year-old man to the hospital with severe injuries.

Investigators said the man, who has not yet been identified, turned on the gas in the home and lit a match.

Police and fire officials continue to investigate.
