2 dead, 2 wounded in North Philadelphia shooting

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - October 4, 2011

A 37-year-old man was shot in the chest and died at the scene.

A 36-year-old man was shot multiple times in the chest and passed away at Temple University Hospital.

"It was like a big noise, like a boom, and I wasn't kind of really paying attention. I thought it was just a regular car making the noise," Jose Torres of North Philadelphia said.

Investigators know there were several people on the corner when words were exchanged and someone opened fired.

"Some of these guys don't give a damn, they don't care how many people they shoot, They don't care how many are on the street; we don't know if all these folks were intended targets or if there were a couple of people who caught a stray bullet," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said.

Police say so far they've found 40 pieces of evidence including the shell casings on the ground and they believe an assault rifle was used.

A 33-year-old woman was shot once time in the lower abdomen and once in the buttocks. She is in critical condition in Temple Hospital.

A 31-year-old man was shot twice in the right thigh. He had someone drive him to Temple Hospital where he listed is in stable condition.

In the past few weeks, there have been a number of shootings with multiple victims on the scene.

Action News asked the police commissioner about the increasing violence.

"They are very violent and very vicious thugs and we've got to do everything we can to get them off the streets and we need the public's help to do that," Ramsey said.

Police are looking for a blue and white Ford 150 that was seen fleeing from the scene.

The names of the victims have not been released.
