Cameras to target Garden State Parkway toll cheats

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. - October 14, 2011

That's when video cameras will be activated at all 84 exact-change lanes to catch toll cheats.

The parkway has lost $3.2 million to toll cheats so far this year.

New Jersey Turnpike Authority spokesman Tom Feeney tells The Asbury Park Press the previous odds of getting caught were slim because only three officers were assigned to write down license plate numbers of offenders.

There's no need to honk the horn for missing the basket.

Computers will keep track of an offender's license plate number and motorists will get a $50 violation notice on the second offense.

The agency will no longer offer envelopes for motorists to mail in the toll.
