AC sues over who's in charge of casino patrols

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - October 18, 2011

The issue flared up after a fatal carjacking in the garage of the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort last month.

Mayor Lorenzo Langford canceled police patrols in the garages, saying the officers were needed elsewhere in the city. But Prosecutor Ted Housel intervened, overriding Langford's executive order and telling police commanders they are free to decide who patrols what.

The Press of Atlantic City reports (http://bit.ly/o10zML ) the city wants a ruling on whether the patrols are a personnel matter, controlled by City Hall, or an operational matter, over which police brass have the final say.
