Board probes NJ teacher's gay posts on Facebook

UNION TOWNSHIP, N.J. - October 19, 2011

Several hundred people were on hand to defend and denounce Viki Knox at the Union Township school board meeting Tuesday night.

The board is considering whether Knox's conduct violated school policies. Members have yet to take action and would not comment on the teacher's status.

Knox allegedly objected to a school display celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports 16-year-old junior Samantha Abreu told the board she is gay and no longer feels safe.

Harry Skeele of Hillsborough says Knox has a First Amendment right to express her opinion.
