"Philadanco" is back in town

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - October 23, 2011

For 40 weeks a year, Philadanco travels…. performing for audiences around the globe.

But every fall, they always come back home to Philadelphia, and this year they bring with them something new and a few things old but much loved, in a program entitled 'For Your Pleasure.'

Joan Myers Brown, Founder & Artistic Director, Philadanco says, "People always ask me 'why don't you do that….' And 'I haven't seen…' and 'well, what about that…'

And so Philadanco Founder Joan Myers Brown put together a show of the company's signature works, including La Valse, a neoclassical work choreographed by Philadelphia native Gene Hill Sagan….a ballet called Blue that showcases the men in the company, and Suite Otis, a tribute to Otis Redding.

"People always, always ask for Suite Otis. It's funny. It's pretty. It's enjoyable so people like it a lot. Especially the older generation likes the music," said Myers Brown.

Philadanco will also present the Philadelphia premiere of a newly commissioned work by former dancer and choreographer Hope Boykin called Watching go by, the day.

Meyers Brown says, "It's about people waking up in the morning and going in different directions and how the day changes for them and how they interact with other people."

Now in its 42nd year, Philadanco is known world-wide for its athletic style, rooted in jazz, ballet and modern dance.

Meyers Brown added, "I have a note on my desk that if you haven't seen us lately, you haven't seen us because it's not the same old thing. It's new dancers, new ballets, new and interesting work that people surely will enjoy.

Philadanco will perform November 4th through the 6that the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theatre. For tickets, visit "Philadanco".
