Judge upholds Atlantic City casino garage patrols

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - October 21, 2011

A judge on Thursday denied Mayor Lorenzo Langford's request to uphold his executive order banning the patrols until the court decides whether Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel had the authority to void it.

The prosecutor earlier this month said Deputy Police Chief Ernest Jubilee had authority over the department's day-to-day operation.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the judge found the executive order was an attempt to "micromanage" the police department.

The patrols began after a fatal carjacking in the garage of the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort last month. The mayor canceled the patrols, saying the officers were needed elsewhere in the city.

The issue will play out in court at a later date.
