Aspiring rapper killed near Allentown mini market

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - October 22, 2011

Phyllis Mason is mourning the death of her 19-year-old grandson. Devon Robinson was gunned down outside an A-Plus Market on Hamilton Street in Allentown.

It happened just after 2:00 Saturday morning and police say there were several people inside and outside the Sunoco gas station at the time.

Joseph Hanna of the Allentown Police Dept., said, "We are interviewing a multitude of people who were at the location. A number of people were inside and outside the market at the time of the shooting."

Robinson graduated from Liberty High School and played football.

His grandmother says, he worked the overnight shift at an Amazon warehouse and was an aspiring rapper. She says, when he wasn't working, he was in a studio.

"He was into music. He had no time for just hanging outside," said Mason.

Police are not saying what may have led to the shooting but Phyllis Mason believes he went to the aid of a friend who was involved in an argument that got out of hand.

Robinson got involved and there was a scuffle. The assailant pulled out a gun and fired.

Mason said, "Put more value on people and love instead of doing things at the spur of the moment without even thinking."

Mason says her grandson had a big heart and would do anything for his friends, and perhaps it cost him his life.
