Figure in Pa. court scandal seeks pension payments

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - October 24, 2011

The Citizens' Voice of Wilkes-Barre reports Sandra Brulo is seeking the return of more than $96,000 in pension payments.

Officials on Luzerne County's retirement board say Brulo will lose more than $50,000 in earned interest because of her criminal record.

Brulo pleaded guilty in March 2009 to tampering with juvenile court records in her position in the probation department.

The Citizens' Voice report says Brulo's request for her $1,700 monthly pension was rejected in 2009.

Former county judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan are each serving prison sentences for the kickback scheme involving two for-profit juvenile detention centers.
