5 burglaries in Cape May Co. may be linked

LOWER TOWNSHIP, N.J. - October 25, 2011

Three incidents happened over the weekend in Lower Township, while two happened on Monday in Middle Township.

Police say all of the incidents may be connecte.

84 year-old Eileen McKernan is one of the victims in Lower Township. Her home was broken into in broad daylight.

Luckily she was out at the time. The suspects used a tree stump to get through a back window and then stole a camera, a TV, jewelry and other items.

"It is upsetting, [they're] invading your house," McKerman said.

James Burton is another victim. The thieves hopped his fence and broke in through a sliding glass door.

"They destroyed our bedroom looking through stuff. They took the jar of money that I saved for my grandkids to take them to Disney World," said Burton.

Worst of all, his wife's wedding ring is gone.

Detectives in Middle and Lower townships are working together on this investigation. They believe there are so many similiarities between the cases its likely they are connected.

Capt. John Edwards of the Middle Township Police said the cases are all occur in the daytime, the suspects make entry into the house the same way and the same types of items are being stolen.

Police have recovered some fingerprint evidence and asking anyone with information to contact them.
