Pa. boy loses fingertip when class door slammed

HARRISBURG, Pa. - October 27, 2011

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports 9-year-old Cremne Scott had been told to stand in the corner of a classroom as punishment and was resting his hand on the door jamb when the substitute teacher left the room to discipline another student.

The boy says the teacher slammed the door behind her, catching his finger. Surgeons were able to reattach the severed fingertip.

An assistant to Harrisburg School District Superintendent Sybil Knight-Burney called Scott's injury an accident but the administration is investigating who closed the door on his finger.

The Patriot-News report says the teacher was back in the same classroom Wednesday.
